70's - Young Hubba
9-year old Darren passes by two cute girls on his bicycle and exclaims “Hubba Hubba.”
The girls giggle and yell back, “Hey Hubba.” Clearly, the nickname has staying power.

1983-87 - First Works
Darren Floughton, known affectionately to his friends as “Hubba” graduates from Franklin D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, NY.
While in H.S. Hubba creates his first commissioned piece for the softball coach- a clipper ship (oil on canvas).

1988-1991 - Punk Rock & Art
Hubba moves from upstate NY to Tucson, AZ where he fronts the punk rock band- HeadCheese. While in Tucson, Hubba enters local art shows and contests. He wins 2nd Prize at 830 Gallery’s exhibition. His work, Everyone Chers in Heaven, is covered in the local paper and described as “blatantly pornographic, representing anal and group sex in the most explicit terms… The execution of this piece in such bold terms is encouraging in the wake of lawmakers attempts to restrict artists’ less ordinary efforts…”

1992 - On the Move to Seattle
While in Tucson, Hubba and James Hillary “Jimmy the Saint” meet and form a life-long friendship. At the time, Jimmy is apprenticing as a tattoo artist and Hubba tattoos anyone who will hold still out of his shotgun apartment. Jimmy moves to Seattle and invites Hubba to join him. Hubba joins the crew at the Seattle Tattoo Emporium, est. 1941, one of America’s oldest operating tattoo parlors. https://www.seattletattooemporium.com/

90's - Grunge & Tattooing
Tattooing experiences massive popularity with a new generation. Seattle becomes its own unique scene due to punk and grunge, and revitalization of the city. The Seattle Tattoo Emporium also operates a screen printing t-shirt business out of the backroom, and bands Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Mudhoney, and Pearl Jam get tattooed and their concert t-shirts printed. Hubba tattoos Jerry Cantrell, Dave Abbruzzesse and a motley menagerie of 90s musicians and artists.

1993 - Chicago Group Show
Hubba is invited to a 2 person show at Chicago’s South Loop Gallery. What’s next?!

90s - Rockabilly & Pomade
Hubba is a mainstay and hit DJ for the 90s Rockabilly scene. His show “Pomade” at the Showbox is a sellout and fan favorite. He DJ’s at the Whisky Bar and other Seattle late night haunts. The BBC also covers his DJ show because it is the antithesis of grunge and bucks the current trends.

90s - Tattoos & Press
Hubba continues to draw, paint, perform and tattoo tourists, college kids, bikers, techies and locals like Chef Jay from Vashon. Hubba’s ink is featured in the Seattle Weekly as photo of the week.

1999 - DJ HUBBA HUBBA
Seattle’s, The Stranger, its weekly local rag, hosts a benefit event called Road Rash 99’ - NW Hootenany & BBQ. DJ Hubba Hubba is invited to perform, and he spins his festive musical creations for attendees.

2001 - Roq La RUE
Hubba is in two group shows at Roq La Rue Art Gallery, Seattle, WA.

History: Roq La Rue was started in 1998 by Kirsten Anderson. Seeking to create a space in Seattle for for the rising “Low Brow” art scene at that time, the gallery showed provocative, countercultural informed works ranging from "Kustom Kulture", Outsider art, prison art, tiki art, and work by underground cartoonists.

2003 - Poster Art
Hubba uses his self-taught art skills to create event posters, album art, t-shirt designs, and other promotional materials. The Experience Music Project hosts a CD release party for Seattle Surf Sensations - The Manatees, and Hubba creates an original design to promote the event. Hubba’s love of Robots, Music and Seattle are featured on The Manatee’s and EMP’s event poster.

2004 - Press & Toilets
The now extinct Capitol Hill Times publishes a feature on Hubba Hubba. Apparently, the Seattle Community can’t get enough of Hubba Hubba and free public toilets.

2010 - Pinstriping Art
Hubba’s first solo exhibit is hosted at Revolutions Coffee Shop - Greenlake, Seattle, WA.
The show is called LINES and showcases Hubba’s pinstriping genre.

2010 - The Irreverent Reverend
Hubba is ordained! Create bespoke meaningful vows with Reverend Hubba that will capture your unique bond with your partner- and keep your guests entertained.
Hubba can also DJ your wedding reception and tattooed wedding rings are available for a nominal fee. -
2011 Tray Kool
Hubba Hubba is a busy boo-bee and creates over 100 original artworks painted on vintage metal trays of various shapes and sizes. The opening reception is 11/1/2011 and the impressive and bountiful collection is displayed at Revolutions Coffee near Greenlake.

2011 - Humans of New York
Hubba travels to NYC to sell his art in Washington Square Park. While he is there, Brandon Stanton, American author and photographer captures fetching images of Hubba Hubba. In 2013, Stanton’s Human’s of New York is published, and the book reaches a #1 position on The New York Times Non-Fiction Best Sellers of 2013.

Hubba has commercial appeal!
Stanley, founded in 1913, known for its insulated drinkware, particularly the Stanley thermos and the popular Quencher tumbler, selects Hubba’s designs for thermoses and water bottles.

2012/13 - Helmets & Tanks
Hubba is invited to participate in the Helmets & Tank Art Shows- hosted at The Piranha Shop & Neumos in Seattle. The event is sponsored by Rainier Beer, Bell helmets and Harley Davidson. Hubba’s raunch and glorious helmets: Cock of Ages and Ride Hard, are acquired by Harley Davidson’s Bellevue Dealership.

Everyone is in misery. Hubba captures his feelings, and the sentiment of the times.

2021-2023 - Art & Depression
Hubba goes deep into the gray, days blurring into nights, the air in his studio thick with the smell of turpentine and sadness. Canvases mock him, each stroke he tries collapsing into nothing. He stops painting, looking, believing. Eventually, despair, grief, and longing start to pour out in color, in weird and captivating images. His hands shake, his eyes burn, and the work slowly comes alive, and for the first time in years, so does he.

2023 Night Circus RINGMASTER
For Halloween 2023, Hubba is The RINGMASTER, a circus performer, for The Night Circus Soirée- based on the book, the event is a realm of enchantment and wonder- blurring the lines between reality and fantasy. Hubba brings his mischievous sparkle, whip, and top hat to this immersive experience- fusing a vintage circus and dance party and creating an unparalleled adventure for attendees that leaves them spellbound.

2024 - Pulp goes to TEXAS
A Texan Patron falls in love with Hubba’s WEIRDO ART and Pulp genre style. He commissions several large format paintings, which Hubba executes in one-shot enamel paint. Hubba and his son Dakota travel to Texas in 2025 to deliver the pieces.

2025 - Left Over Luck & New Beginnings
Romie attends Outsider Art Fair in Chelsea, NYC. She turns to Jimmy and says, “Hubba should fucking be Here.” The plotting and scheming begins. HUBBA draws, paints, and prepares for his Art Warehouse Party and Celebration- Left Over Luck. Aug 24th - 8 pm - midnight) a rare opportunity to experience his live/work studio and toast to this next exciting chapter in his creative escapades. Cash and carry sales of left over paintings from art shows (and some new ones too). This party is not to be missed.
